POLICE believe they have smashed a major drugs production operation following a series of raids in the Taunton and Wellington area over the past week.
Officers say they seized a total of more than 1,000 cannabis plants from three homes with an estimated street value of £400,000.
They targeted two homes in Silver Street, Taunton, and one in Castle Cottages, at Ham, just outside Wellington, using warrants issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Forensic officers have been at the three houses this week and suspected drug production equipment has been taken away.
A police spokesman said no arrests had been made and inquiries were continuing.
Dec Insp Alan West said: “Police have attended several addresses in the Taunton area.
“As a result of this, a drugs investigation has been instigated.
“Avon and Somerset Police wish to send out a strong message that drugs will not be tolerated in the force area.
“I would urge the communities of Avon and Somerset to continue to support us by reporting any information they have in relation to drug crime.”
Anyone who suspects drug dealing in their area should contact Taunton police on 0845-4567000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111 or via www.crimestoppers-org.uk
