PENSIONERS are being urged to get scam wise as police bid to prevent people in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne from being duped into giving away money.
Police have organised performances of Too Good to be True, a “scam-buster” musical for the over-60s, at venues across South Somerset, including Chard, Crewkerne and South Petherton.
The show follows the story of Sydney, the victim of a rogue tarmac tradesman, and Mary, who thinks she has won the holiday of a lifetime.
In a number of incidents locally in recent months people have either been conned by bogus workmen or fallen victim to lottery scams received through the post.
Sgt Andy Lloyd said: “The theatre company which puts on the show is really good and anyone attending will have a really entertaining and informative time.
“There are plenty of free seats and the target audience is the over-60s, who are at risk of being ripped off by callers at their homes and by phone scams.”
Sgt Lloyd added that the shows were free.
Performances of Too Good to be True are at: Edgar Hall in Somerton at 11am on Tuesday, March 2; David Hall in South Petherton at 2pm on Tuesday, March 2; Westland Leisure Complex in Yeovil at 2pm on Wednesday, March 3; Memorial Hall in Wincanton at 2pm on Thursday, March 4; Victoria Hall in Crewkerne at 10.30am on Friday, March 5; and the Guildhall in Chard at 2pm on Friday, March 5.
