MORE than 3,800 voters in West Somerset will find themselves voting in a different constituency at this year’s General Election.
The switch is a result of changes made by the Boundary Commission, which claims the new areas will not only help balance out the number of voters in each constituency, but also create a much clearer boundary.
Voters in the parishes of Exford, Exmoor, Withypool, Hawkridge, Brompton Regis, Bury, Huish Champflower, Skilgate, Upton, Exton, Winsford, Cutcombe, Brushford and Dulverton will now be voting in the Bridgwater and West Somerset Parliamentary constituency – a seat currently held by Conservative MP Ian Liddell-Grainger.
Previously, they voted in the Taunton constituency – a seat currently held by Liberal Democrat MP Jeremy Browne.
Bruce Lang, West Somerset Council’s returning officer, said: “People need to be aware of the changes made by the Boundary Commission when they vote in the General Election.
“Nearer the time, all voters will receive a polling card with all the relevant details and it is important that people take note of this information.”
Mr Lang said polling stations would remain the same as previous years.
People in any part of West Somerset who have not yet registered to vote can do so by contacting electoral services officer Elisa Day on 01643-703704 or by e-mailing eday@westsomerset.gov.uk

Nearly four thousand people moving will mean about a net two thousand benefit to the Lib Dems in Taunton and the likewise to the Torys in Bridgewater.
