YOU may have seen Hollywood star John Cusack trying to save the world in blockbuster 2012, but did you know a Spaxton man may have inspired it?
Adventurous Chris Morton and his partner Ceri Louise Thomas have published 2012: The Secret of the Crystal Skull - a book surrounding the mysterious Mayan prophecy that the world will end in 2012.
According to the prophecy, when the Mayan calendar completes on December 21, 2012, a wave of catastrophic natural disasters will follow.
Chris claims his and Ceri's latest book has inspired the screenplay of this year's hit movie. It follows the success of their acclaimed first book, The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls, which formed the basis of the last Indiana Jones film.
Chris told the Mercury how a Mayan shaman told him of the phenomena while he was researching for a BBC documentary in the Amazon.
He said: “We started researching the crystal skulls after a holiday in Guatemala 14 years ago because we became so intrigued by them.
“While researching, we were told by a Mayan shaman that we were trusted in getting the message of 2012 out to the people of the world.
“We now had the keys to our future.”
When asked if he believed the predictions could come true, Chris said: “Sometimes I believe the prophecy could come true but sometimes I do not.
“If we carry on the way we are, we won't have much time left.”
