Budding archaeologists take part in school dig

TWO sixth-form pupils from King Alfred School in Highbridge took part in an archaeology project near Kilve.

Mark Bidgood and Amanda Hubbard took part in the Fairfield Community Project at the updated Elizabethan manor house - the home of Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Lady Gass.

The students explored the house after meeting Lady Gass and excavated a trench that uncovered a fortified outer wall and moat.

Mark and Amanda analysed artefacts that included pottery, animal remains and glasswork and learned site planning and recording techniques.

The pair study AS level archaeology and Mark will be going to university in 2010 to study the subject further.

MARK Bidgood will be studying archaeology at university. MARK Bidgood will be studying archaeology at university.
