WINCANTON Racecourse is back in action this coming week for the start of the 2009-10 racing season.

The first fixture kicks-off at 12.30pm on Thursday, October 8, when the gates open and carries a seven-race card which starts from 2.25pm.

From October 2009 to May 2010, the course will host 17 meetings with total prize money stabilising at over £1-million for the period. Three meetings have secured TV coverage live on Channel 4.

These are.

· Badger Ales Chase Day (November 7, 2009) featuring a quality chase and hurdle contests.

· Higos Insurance Day (January 9, 2010) with the principal race being the £20,000, 2m5f, Higos Insurance Services Handicap Chase - guaranteeing to attract quality contenders.

· Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle Day (February 20, 2010), where Cheltenham Festival contenders are out in force.

While Boxing Day (December 26, 2009), Family Day (March 28, 2010), Countryside Day (April 18, 2010), Ladies' Day (April 27, 2010) and the Easter meetings will continue to attract significant crowds due to the quality action on and off-course.
