Ideas wanted for Jocelyn Park play area

JOCELYN Park in Chard is set for a £50,000 upgrade to the children’s play area and councillors and Barnardos are looking to children to tell them what they want.

Following a £235m national investment from 1008 to 2011 by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, and £278,000 from South Somerset District Council, Jocelyn Park has been earmarked for a £50,000 make-over to upgrade its play facilities and help children learn through play.

£35,000 will come from the DCSF and SSDC, and currently the town needs to find £12,500 to complete the funding although councillors are confident about finding the cash.

The focus now is on getting feedback from the youngsters who will be using the facilities, so members of Barnardos in Somerset’s Play and Participation Service want your drawings, photos and letters.

Kristen Lambert of the Play and Participation Service said: “We really want to work with children and young people in the area to make sure the kids are heard and that their views are taken into consideration when designing the park.”

Kristen and her team hope local children will be inspired by similar projects at Higher Holway in Taunton and Ninesprings in Yeovil, something they’ve seen on holiday or even imagined and get in touch with Barnardos.

Any ideas for Jocelyn Park need to be send in by Wednesday, July 22, and can be e-mailed to kristen.lambert@barnardos.org.uk or posted to Barnardos Play and Participation Service, Kilver Court, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5NF.
