Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance receives funding

A CHEQUE for £360 has been presented to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance as a result of fund-raising at a Wincanton event.

On May 3, 2009, an open day was held to promote the joint location of the police station within the district council offices.

The event included a raffle and other games such as hook-a-boat with all the money raised donated to the air ambulance.

The money raised was donated to the air ambulance by Avon and Somerset Constabulary and South Somerset District Council earlier this week.

Sgt Ed Hawkins said: "The air ambulance provides a fantastic service for people in South Somerset and I am pleased that we have been able to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.

"Living in a largely rural area it is an invaluable resource and it is only because of voluntary donations that they are able to provide this service. I would like to thank everyone who attended the open day for their generosity - it will make a big difference."

Nicola Howkins, director of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, said: "We are very grateful for donations such as this.

"We rely solely on support from our local communities to ensure that the air ambulance can continue to help save lives."
