LONG-HAUL lorry driver Jon Cassin from Burnham will be swapping the comfort of clocking up the miles in his cabin to endure a half marathon on his feet – all for a good cause.
At the end of this month Jon, of Adam Street, will be testing himself to the limits as he takes part in his first ever 13-mile marathon to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
The day will be particularly significant for the trucker whose good friend Margery O’Reilly, a local district nurse, died from the disease on January 1.
He explained: “One of the last things she did before going into the hospice for the final time was to organise a joint Christmas lunch for her family and ours.
“She was so brave and fought so hard against a terrible and painful disease that I just felt I wanted to do something to try and help others.”
