AN evening of New Orleans trad jazz awaits at Ilminster Arts Centre on May 10.
Devon-based Magnolia Jazz Band are coming to town this month.
An experienced group of musicians, the Magnolia Jazz Band was formed by banjoist Pete Miller to play his favourite ‘revivalist’ style.
New Orleans music became popular in the late 1940’s but had its roots in 1920’s jazz, but with a much broader spectrum of tunes.
This is the music that inspires the members of the Magnolia Jazz band – and its audiences. Since forming the band has enjoyed enormous success and appeared at every major club and festival in the South.
The repertoire covers a wide variety of the many melodies from the jazz era aimed at giving a mixture of the novel and the familiar.
The line up includes band leader and banjoist Pete Miller (banjoist and band leader), Dave Martin (valve trombone and vocalist), Gordon Stafford (clarinet), Chris Stockings (drums), Brian Down (cornet) and Mike Lancaster (sousaphone).
The band are playing from 8pm. Tickets cost £14. To book call 01460 54973.
