EVERY Thursday Bridgwater's St Mary's Church becomes the stunning backdrop to a volunteer-run cafe.

The Circle Cafe is open every Thursday from noon until 2pm and has been running for nearly 15 years.

Delphine Hucker took over the reigns after St Mary's Church was closed for 16 months for its major £1million revamp.

"I came here as a customer for many years when I worked in town and always really enjoyed it," explains Delphine.

"It was run by a couple then.

"When the church re-opened I would often ask the vicar when the cafe would re-open.

"Eventually when it became apparent it wasn't coming back I offered to bring it back myself."

Delphine said she did not have any background in running a cafe but her passion and determination means the cafe has gone from strength to strength.

"We opened The Circle Cafe again just before Christmas in 2017," Delphine said.

"Our aim is to open Fridays as well but we need a few more volunteers.

"The Church revamp has made a big difference, it looks beautiful and is now completely accessible because it has been levelled out."

Delphine's husband Norman helps out with picking up fresh supplies and many of the volunteers bring their own homemade cakes.

You can enjoy delicious hot meals, toasties and soups too, and there is underfloor heating and free-wifi.

"We always welcome new volunteers to join our team," says Delphine.

St Mary's Church also has a dementia-friendly Safe Harbour Cafe pm the third Wednesday of every month from 10am to noon serving tea, coffee and cake.
