MORE than 100 tractors converged on Halsey Cross in Over Stowey on Sunday for a popular annual charity tractor run.

Organised by Terry Ayre, the annual tractor run has raised more than £200,000 for the children’s cancer ward at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton via the Marion Evered Trust.

All manner of tractors took part in the run, setting off a 10am and following a route through Fiddington to Stogursey, through Burton, Lilstock, Kilve, Alfoxton, Holford, Dead Woman’s Ditch and finish at Over Stowey.

The event had a good crowd supporting along the route, donating as the convoy rode past.

Last year’s event saw 83 tractors take part, and raised a total of £1,768, and this year the group topped that total, bringing in a total of more than £2,000.

Organiser Terry Ayre said: “Thank you all the tractor drivers, sponsors, landowners and most of all, all the team who worked so hard to make everything run so smoothly.”

Over the years the Tractor Run has covered most of West Somerset, from Steart to West Quantoxhead, from Spaxton up over the Quantocks and out past Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor .

The Marion Evered Trust fund was set up by Arthur and Pauline Barrow in 1972 after they lost their daughter Tracy to leukaemia.
