SUPERMARKET giant Aldi has been given the green light to introduce unrestricted delivery hours at its Highbridge store despite concerns it will disrupt residents.

The store, which has been open in Bennett Road since August, was only able to accept deliveries between 6am and 11pm each day as it was subject to a planning condition by Sedgemoor District Council (SDC) to 'safeguard residents from noise and disturbance.'

But planners at SDC have granted Aldi permission to get the condition removed despite concerns from Burnham and Highbridge town councillors that unrestricted delivery hours would lead to disruption for guests at Travelodge in Highbridge and lorries coming through the town would lead to an increase in noise.

At a SDC development committee meeting on Tuesday (February 19) councillors approved the supermarket giant's request to have the condition removed, subject to a number of conditions.

A decision notice from SDC planners said: "The rating level of any sound as part of this development shall not exceed the prevailing background noise level at any time, when measured or calculated at the boundary of any noise sensitive dwelling.

"To safeguard local residents from noise and disturbance."
