WORK on a selection of new homes at Bridgwater’s Kings Down development is set to get underway next month.

Taylor Wimpey Bristol has announced that the new phase of work will start on Saturday, March 2, creating a range of two to four-bedroom houses which the company say will suit families and first time buyers alike.

Lucy Carson, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Bristol, said: “After the success of our first two phases, we’re delighted to continue to bring new homes to people in the area.

“This release marks another opportunity for more house hunters to take the plunge onto the property ladder, whether they’re a first-time buyer or seasoned mover.”

All properties will be available with the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme.

This allows a property under the value of £600,000 to be secured with a five per cent deposit and a 20 per cent equity loan, allowing buyers to spend less time saving and more time moving.

The Kings Down estate looks set to grow further with Hallam Land Management submitting proposals to build 57 homes, as well as up to 450m2 of retail use and associated infrastructure on land to the west of Kings Road.

The proposal includes provision for up to 30 per cent affordable housing.

A spokesman for Hallam Land Management said: “The site’s location and design philosophy makes particular emphasis on priority measures for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users.”

The spokesman also said that the new retail space would provide a ‘valuable day-to-day asset’ to the emerging community to the north-east of Bridgwater.

The site will be accessed via the existing route directly off Kings Road via a standard priority junction.

The proposed onsite parking provision will be determined at the detailed planning stage which Hallam Land Management say will take into account the parking standards of Sedgemoor District Council and avoid any potential overspill on-street parking’.
