AN £8.4million investment into Bridgwater's gas supply network has been announced.
Wales and West Utilities will be pumping the money into the town to ensure residents continue to receive a 'safe and reliable' gas supply for 'years to come'.
The investment will see more than 65km of old metal gas pipes being upgraded to new plastic ones, while more than 4600 houses will also receive new gas supply pipes.
Rob Long, Wales & West Utilities Director of Operations, said: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Bridgwater. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“Our £8.4m investment in Bridgwater and the surrounding area will not only keep the gas flowing safely and reliably today, it will also help make sure the gas network is fit for the future, and can play its part in delivering reliable and affordable green energy.
“We’ll be working in communities right across south west England and we really appreciate the support and patience of local people while we work. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on our plans.”
