BRIDGWATER'S One Stop in West Street was forced to close this morning (Friday, January 18) after suffering its fourth break-in in a year.

The shop had shattered glass where part of the door had been smashed; and the lock was damaged.

Hayley Waters, store manager, said the thief stole around £2,000 worth of scratchcards but was caught by police carrying the empty lottery box in the early hours.

Ms Waters said: "The break-in happened in the early hours and the police have been able to cancel the scratchcards so they are now worthless.

"It is frustrating, we have lost six hours of trade this morning and it is a busy shop.

"It is our fourth break-in the past year. We have good security so they never get away with much, but it is a hassle and I wish it would stop happening."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said they were called out at around 12.30am today (Friday).

"Shortly afterwards a man was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He remains in police custody."
