A YELLOW drum containing a potentially 'hazardous' chemical substance which washed up on Brean beach is going to be collected and disposed of 'as soon as possible' - Somerset Waste Partnership has said.
Three fire engines and Burnham Coastguard were called to the beach on Saturday (January 12) after a dog walker discovered the 200 litre container on the beach and raised the alarm.
Firefighters cordoned off the beach for a number of hours on Saturday (January 12) as they had concerns the drum could contain a potentially 'dangerous' substance.

The fire service put the drum into a protective drum before it was transported to Warren Farm in Brean so the council could safely dispose of it.
But a spokesman for Somerset Waste Partnership said their contractors will be collecting the drum and disposing of it as soon as possible.
It is still not yet known what the drum contained.
