IT'S the day we've all been waiting for - the unveiling of the Taunton Monopoly board.

The official launch takes place at 10am at a red carpet ceremony at the Cooper Associates County Ground, home to Somerset County Cricket Club.

And howzat for starters? The club, which will be represented by star bowler, Taunton-born Jack Leach, and mascot Stumpy at the launch, has scooped the top space - Mayfair in the traditional London version.

The other big one - Park Lane - goes to the Museum of Somerset, housed in the town's historic castle.

Several other Taunton landmarks get to exclusively feature on the town's very own game.

Somerset County Gazette:
Some of the landmarks on the board

Your County Gazette takes the red Fleet Street square, the traditional home to the national press.

As well as cricket, Taunton people love their sport and horse racing is represented with Taunton Racecourse, as well as football club Taunton Town.

The county town is blessed with a number of beautiful open spaces and the cream of them is the beautiful Vivary Park.

Vivary Park has of course hosted Taunton Flowers Show for years and the event is recognised on a Community Chest card.

Taunton attracts shoppers from far and wide and the Orchard Shopping Centre features on one of the board's orange squares.

Judge Jeffreys - the 'Hanging Judge' Lord Chief Justice - is recalled for sentencing scores of people to death during the Bloody Assizes of 1685, but his rare displays of leniency are recalled on a Community Chest card.

Another Community Chest card will put you back some of your well-earned cash, but for a good cause - the Love Musgrove Appeal to buy a new MRI scanner.

Somerset County Gazette:

There's another charity angle to the Community Chest space, which goes to St Margaret's Hospice.

Other charities are MIND in Taunton and Somerset and Stand Against Violence.

Vivary Park gets another mention with a Chance card ordering the player to cough up for a picnic for their opponents.

And the County Gazette is up again with a Chance card informing the player they have won a suduko competition in the paper.

Today's launch coincides with the game hitting the shops in time for the Christmas rush.

Jake Houghton, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, makers of the Taunton version of Monopoly under official licence from Monopoly owners Hasbro, said: "The game is a celebration – and a love letter to – Taunton.

"Thank you to everyone who has voted for the landmarks that appear and star on it and for making this game happen."
