First aiders from St John Ambulance will show shoppers skills needed to save lives in Bridgwater.

From 9am to 5pm on Saturday, volunteers from the charity will be in Angel Place demonstrating first aid techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to use a defibrillator.

The town’s St John Ambulance unit manager, Jon Warren said: ‘Our training kit – including resusci anne dolls – means the public will be able to get hands-on experience and learn simple, practical skills that could make them the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

‘We’re hoping to bring an ambulance with us, too, but if it won’t fit into the shopping centre we’ve been offered the use of an empty shop front for the day.’

The first aid demos are free of charge, but the charity’s volunteers will be fundraising in support of their life saving work.

‘We rely on donations to teach life saving skills, deliver first aid and campaign to raise awareness of the importance of first aid, so all donations are welcome,’ Jon added.
