A COUPLE who married at Bridgwater's St Mary's Church in 1947 has just celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.

Bert and Doris Geddicott, who are 93 and 90 respectively, met after the Second World War, soon fell in love and haven't looked back since.

On Wednesday, August 16 friends and family gathered at the couple's home in Kidsbury Avenue, Bridgwater - the same house they have lived in when they married 70 years ago.

Doris was born in Cleveland, Ohio in the United States before her family moved to Bridgwater at a young age, while Bert was born in East Huntspill where he lived until joining the Royal Navy where he went on to be a gunner.

The couple met after the Second World War. Bert went into the building industry and worked as a painter and decorator, while Doris was employed at S Leffman in Bridgwater.

Bert went on to work for Bonded Fibre before retiring.

The couple now have two sons, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The couple still enjoy going for walks, particularly in Burnham, and still live independently.

Wednesday was a quiet day of celebration for the family and close friends as well as a surprise visit from the mayor of Bridgwater Graham Granter.
