A BURNHAM-on-Sea woman is taking on her first 5k run in memory of her mother.

Mother of two, Sarah Duckett was the first person to sign up for Weston Hospicecare's Bubble Rush event and is running the race in memory of her mother, Lynn Peacock who was cared for by the charity before she died in June last year.

Sarah said: "My mum was my best friend, we did everything together.

"Losing her to cancer has been the hardest thing I have had to go through.

"While she was ill, she spent nearly two months in Weston Hospicecare and they were so lovely there.

"I visited her six or seven days a week and always took one, if not both, of my children.

"The staff were so helpful and kind, they would help with anything.”

Sarah says she has been training to get ready for the run but said she is nervous to take on the 5k run.

"I'm not someone who has ever run before and anyone who knows me knows I'm the worst person for running as I love being lazy.

"But I have taken on the challenge to run 5K, as I know my mum would have been proud" she said.

Weston Hospicecare's Bubble Rush event takes place on Saturday August 5 in Apex Park in Burnham-on-Sea and is open to people of all ages.

All proceeds from the event go to the charity which provides care to people with life limiting illnesses.

John Bailey, director of patient services at the hospice said: "These events are so important to us as they give everyone the opportunity to have fun and to raise vital funds at the same time so we can continue to support our patients and their families when they need us the most.”
