A NEW play area has been opened in a village near Bridgwater

The play area at Over Stowey Recreation Ground was officially opened on Sunday, June 18.

The opening was set to coincide with The Great Together, a weekend that was held across the country in memory of MP Jo Cox.

The original play area was closed after it was declared unsafe, so the Village Hall and Recreation Group Committee worked to find the funding to reinstate the play area.

The new area was opened by Arthur Barrow, who was an Over Stowey resident that was involved in with the committee for several years.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Chairman, Philip Rich, said: "Myself and the committee would like to thank the following groups for their donations, support, and input towards the completion of the new play area.

"Thanks foes to the Marjory Downing Legacy, Over Stowey Parish Council, Somerset Community Foundation, Sedgemoor District Council Community Fund, Somerset County Council, Cannington Enterprises, Grandfield and Son, Millhaze Builders Ltd, Travis Perkins, Cockwood Fabrications, Woodland South West Ltd, R and F Barrow and Son, Over Stowey village hall and Recreation ground, Over Stowey Social Club, Alvian Ltd, Gary Blackmoor, Over Stowey Cricket Club, and Philip Baker the groundsman.

" And to Jason Barrow for a delicious barbecue."
