A SOMERSET woman who lost her honours medal is "pleased" to say she's been given a replacement.

June Small, 82, lost her MBE on May 21 after attending the mayoral service at St James Church.

She said she had parked at the Coal Orchard Car Park and that after nipping over to Morrisons, she realised the medal had dropped off the ribbon.

Mrs Small, who lives at Charlton Orchards in Creech St Michael with her husband Robin, hoped that her lost MBE might find its way back to her, but with no luck, she decided to seek guidance on applying for a replacement.

She said: "It was really quick. I sent a letter off and got one back with a form to fill in and five days later, I had my new medal.

"I've got a new case, and it's really nice and shiny.

"I'm so pleased, but heard nothing about my lost one. It's very strange because it has no monetary value to anyone. Perhaps it will show up in a few years washed up on the river bank."

Mrs Small was awarded her honours in 2011 for her services to the food producing businesses in the South West. She was nominated by Taunton Farmer's Market for the MBE.

She spent more than 14 years promoting British produce and gave up her job in teaching to promote British food for the Agricultural Committee in Europe.

But now she's got her replacement, she says she wont be letting it out of her sight.

She added: "I really have to thank Paul Jones, the editor of the County Gazette who helped me get the replacement. I wasn't sure if it was possible but he assured me that it was and researched how I could do it.

"There's not many occasions you would actually wear it, but I will certainly be keeping it under lock and key from now on."
