A SOMERSET school is in mourning after the death of a Year 11 pupil described as "much loved".

Amelia Willis, who attended Huish Episcopi near Langport, was found dead on May 13.

A spokeswoman for the Somerset Coroner's Office said the inquest of Miss Willis was opened on May 16 and the cause of death was hanging, although there was yet to be a post-mortem report.  Principal of the academy Andrew Davies, paid tribute to the 16 year old in a letter sent out to pupils and parents on May 15.

The letter says: "It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you that over the weekend one of our Year 11 students, Amelia Willis, has tragically died.

"Amelia was a much loved and respected member of our community who will be sadly missed.

"All students in the school will be told this sad news today by their teachers.

"Clearly some students, in particular those who knew Amelia well, will be deeply upset by this news and therefore we have arranged for additional support to be available on-site over the next few days and weeks. Support for students will be based in the Student Services Hub should children require it.

"If you believe your own child could benefit from support at this time please do not to hesitate to contact us through your child’s Tutor, Progress Leader or member of the Senior Leadership Team.

"If your family is affected by this sad news we can also put you in touch with other support agencies to help you through this time.

"Our thoughts are very much with Amelia’s family and friends at this very sad time. Thank you for your support at this difficult time for our school community."
