SEVERAL good causes look set to benefit from a council-run lottery.
More than 30 organisations have registered an interest in applying for payouts from the Somerset West Lottery being set up by Taunton Deane Borough and West Somerset councils.
The weekly game was launched last week, with the first draw set to take place on Saturday, July 29.
From every £1 ticket sold, 60p will go to charities, voluntary organisations and other good causes in the area - 20p will go to the prize fund and the rest will cover running costs and VAT.
As well as the organisations that have expressed an interest receiving payouts, nine have already applied online.
People will be able to buy lottery tickets from Tuesday, June 13, with a one-in-50 chance of scooping on of the prizes, which include a £25,000 jackpot.
Simon Lewis, assistant director for housing and communities for both councils, said: “I am encouraged by the number of organisation that have signed up already and hope that residents take the opportunity to support them when tickets go on sale.”
