A MAN was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after a being cut free from a car crash in Bridgwater.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were all called to Stockmoor Drive at around 4.10am yesterday (March 26).

The road was closed for more than four hours by Avon and Somerset Police contacted fire control to request assistance at the crash as a person was trapped inside the vehicle.

Two fire engines from Bridgwater were rushed to the scene.

On arrival crews confirmed there had been a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle, and one male person was still within the vehicle.

Fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to open the door on the driver side, and gave first aid alongside the Ambulance paramedic.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: "The driver was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with what was believed to be serious head injuries.

"He later discharged himself after treatment. The road was reopened at 8.20am."
