RESIDENTS of Ilminster received life-saving training for the town's two brand new defibrillators.

The vital equipment has been brought to the town thanks to the efforts of a team including Sophie Storey, Emma Rutter, Claire Kingdom, Aimee Fitzpatrick, Ellie Horgan, Emma Jane Taylor and Helena Jones.

Mrs Storey said: "We have leased the defibrillators on a four year plan. It all started when Emma Rutter was a trainee nurse and she said at the beginning of last year, does Ilminster have any defibrillators? And if not, then why not?

"A few of people got together, including Ellie Horgan who is a first responder and Helena Jones the community champion from Ilminster Tesco, and we started to organise something.

"We were blown away, just overwhelmed, by the amount of money that were received in donations.

"We had to raise £3,500 and we got that in a few months, which is fantastic.

"We are quite keen to emphasise that if you couldn't come along then you can still use the defibrillators."

The group already held demonstrations at the Party on the Park earlier in the year.

The latest demonstrations took place at the Shrubbery Hotel last Tuesday.
