IT WASN'T a fairytale ending, but a Chard footballer made his debut in the Champions League last night.

Ben Hamer, a former Holyrood pupil, started in goal for Leicester City in their final group game against Porto in Portugal.

Hamer, who was making his first start of the season, would not have enjoyed the experience as the rampant Portugese side won 5-0.

There was not much the Chard goalkeeper could have done to limit the scoring, as he was often left exposed by the makeshift defence in front of him.

Leicester were already through to the next round of the competition before last night's game, meaning they could face a glamour tie against some European giants in the next round, and could be drawn against Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Paris St Germain.

It was Ben's first appearance in almost two years for the Premier League champions as he has struggled to break into the first team.

Hamer also picked up an unwanted record during the game.

He is the first ever English goalkeeper to have conceded five goals on his Champions League debut.
