TWO of Minehead seafront's major disused buildings look set to be given a new lease of life.

One of Minehead's most beautiful buildings, The Queen's Hall, has new owners who were successfully granted a licence from West Somerset District Council last week and are looking to open in the near future.

There was also positive news as Minehead's disused Visitor Centre looks set to become the new home for Channel Adventures.

The Queen's Hall, which was built as a theatre in the 1910's, closed as a pub in 2013 and has been boarded up and described as an 'eyesore' but is set to re-open in the coming months.

The owners have posted on the venue's Facebook page that there will be a recruitment day for bar staff today between 11am-3pm, another for kitchen and floor staff on Monday between 11am-3pm and an open day for staff on the Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile the Visitor Centre, which has been closed for nearly five years, looks as though it will now be the base for Channel Adventures, who are currently based in the Vennlands Industrial Estate.

The company offer a diverse range of adventurous activities, outdoor education and personal development programmes in the local area.

Managing director Jim Whittaker said: "It is still pretty early days, but hopefully this can be a real result for Minehead. Watch this space.

The group run activities including kayaking, mountain biking, walking, paddleboarding, sailing and raft building for schools, corporate events, stag and hen dos and anyone keen on to enjoy the local environment.

The seafront visitor centre was originally opened in 2008 with more than £200,000 or European Regional Redevelopment Funding.

In 2011, West Somerset Council closed the information centre which was situated on the seafront because it could not afford to run it, and since then the information centre has been moved to the Beach Hotel and run by Minehead Development Trust.

West Somerset District Councillor Mandy Chilcott said: "I am very pleased that, all being well, the Visitor Centre is going to be occupied by Channel Adventures.

"This will be a great addition to the seafront - and I wish them every success in their new location."
