THE Met Office has issued a weather warning as forecasters warn of heavy rainfall and gale-force winds across Somerset on Somerset.

Forecasters are predicting between 20mm and 30mm of rain could fall in the county on Saturday, with the weather warning in force from 6am until midnight.

A forecaster said: "Heavy and sometimes persistent rain is likely to affect parts of southern England, particularly the southwest, along with parts of south Wales on Saturday.

"20-30 mm of rain is expected quite widely across the warning area with locally 40-60 mm possible on south-facing slopes.

"In addition, southerly gales are expected with gusts of 40-50 mph inland but locally 60 mph on south-facing coasts.

"The rain and gales are expected to clear from the west during the evening."
