Drug users doing deals in a derelict building, heroin needles left on the street and anti-social behaviour that’s dragging down the area. Those are the issues raised by residents of Wyndham Road and Frederick Street in Bridgwater over activity taking place in the ruins of the Withy Cutter pub before it is finally demolished.

“Windows have been smashed, there’s rubbish everywhere the people go in there at night,” said one frightened resident.

“Everyone in the roads around think it’s disgusting. We want something to happen as it’s a complete eyesore. Sedgemoor gave us no information about what was happening. We want the council to get moving but we’re kept in the dark.

"We think they plan to build a block of flats there but that was back in 2014.”

However the end is in sight for residents as the application to demolish the pub and redevelop the site as flats by Land Promotions UK has been given the green light by Sedgemoor.

The former pub is on the corner of the two streets and has had its roof taken off by the owners and is in a state of dereliction and presents an unattractive sight for the residents. Time has dragged on the property is now a gathering place for trouble makers say residents. They say the sooner the firm get on and start building the better and have criticised the delays.

To see the plans visit the Sedgemoor planning website and key in Application Reference Number: 08/14/00110 and the postcode of TA6 4NG. The site will see 14 apartments including two earmarked for affordable housing along with parking and landscaping say the developers.
