A SPEEDING driver has been fined just £1 after admitting his crime to magistrates.

Brian Thomas was clocked doing 37mph in a 30mph stretch of the A39 at Holford.

Thomas, 64, of Selbourne Place, Minehead, pleaded guilty to the offence in May when he appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Courts last Thursday.

Magistrates decided to impose the £1 penalty due to “lack of means and extreme mitigation”.

But he will have to find a further £170 after he was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £150 criminal courts charge.

He was also given three points on his licence.
