A TEENAGE girl had to be rescued from theme park rollercoaster after becoming trapped.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to Brean Theme Park on Coast Road at 7.31pm on Sunday when a 15-year-old became trapped in the footwell of the rollercoaster car, needing emergency assistance.

A fire crew from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the park, along with a special rescue tender from Taunton and paramedics.

The front of the carriage was sawed off using cutting equipment to release the victim.

A fire service spokesman said: “We worked with the paramedics to free the girl.

“She wasn’t physically trapped but was just unable to get out of the rollercoaster carriage.”

Once she was rescued from the vehicle, she was released into the care of the paramedics.

An ambulance spokesman said: “The girl suffered both neck and back injuries although it is not thought to be serious.”

She was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

A spokesperson for the theme park and Brean Leisure park said: “The park is still currently investigating the incident and we have no comment on the matter at this time.”

As of yet, it is unconfirmed which rollercoaster the girl was riding at the park.

The Health and Safety Executive which investigate incidents of this nature has been made aware of the incident.

“We do know what has happened and have made some initial enquiries over the weekend,” said a spokesperson.

“At this point we are unsure whether it will need investigating but we have been made aware and we know that it was a girl who became trapped.”
