A severe house fire in Chard caused fire crews to be called out from Chard, Ilminster and Axminster yesterday afternoon (Sunday, August 23).
When the first crew arrived at the house in Field View, Combe St Nicholas around 3pm they were confronted with smoke billowing from an upstairs window and requested further assistance.
Extra resources came in the form of help from Crewkerne, an aerial ladder from Taunton, an incident command vehicle from Honiton and a fire victim support unit from The Salvation Army.
The incident commander confirmed that the fire involved and Aga style oven which led to the kitchen being completely destroyed, and the rest of the property suffering severe damage.
After receiving no reply from inside the house, the crew forced their way in to combat the fire. It was later confirmed that all persons were accounted for.
The fire took over an hour to get fully under control, and the crews had to use 4 breathing apparatus in use, 2 hose reel jets and a safety jet to combat the blaze.
