HUGE queues turned out for opening of The Range, in Taunton on Friday (July 31).

Taunton Deane mayor Cllr Marica Hill carried out the honours at the Hankridge Way DIY store, along with The Range owner Chris Dawson.

Once open, shoppers packed into the store’s two floors to explore the 16 departments available, including an extensive outdoor garden centre and family café.

The company’s own mascot, Captain Range, was on hand to entertain the crowd and give out goodies.

And there's more fun tomorrow, with free face painting for the children and a craft demo taking place in store.

The new store has brought around 80 jobs to the local area, from store managers to warehouse staff and sales assistants to store and office managers; all of whom were on hand to assist customers during the opening.

Mr Dawson said: "I was very proud to open another store in my home region.

"We were really pleased to have so many people turn up to the opening of our new Taunton store."

The Range has taken over the store vacated by Homebase earlier this summer.
