HUNTWORTH Lane between the M5 J24 roundabout and Moorland will be closed for four weeks while improvements are carried out.

Resurfacing work is being carried out by Somerset County Council's highways teams, and is due to start on August 10.

The council says the work si necessary as the road is showing signs of wear and tear following heavy use during last year's flooding and also in more recent months for recovery and flood prevention works.

The scheme was originally scheduled to tie in with the planned closure of the Huntworth railway bridge where Network Rail has planned repairs but this work has been postponed.

The road will be closed between 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with the road reopening to traffic outside of these times.

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “We understand that this work will cause some inconvenience, but it has been planned for the summer holidays when roads are quieter and to avoid disruption to school transport.

“The resurfacing is badly needed so I’d ask people to please bear with us as the end result will be a much-improved road.”

The work will comprise resurfacing between the Huntworth triangle through to where the road meets the River Parrett north of Moorland.

In addition there will be localised repairs outside of this area between the M5 roundabout and Huntworth and also along the river road.

All residents within the closure have been contacted and access will be maintained wherever possible.

A temporary diversion route will be signed while the road closure is in place.
