BRIDGWATER MP Ian Liddell-Grainger has told the Mercury that Tesco “paid through the nose” to withdraw from plans to build a superstore in town.
Mr Liddell-Grainger said that he was unable to disclose the figures paid but added that Bridgwater has not lost out.
He said: “Yes it is a good deal for Bridgwater.
"It’s a deal where we came out with everything paid for and extra money in our pockets – Tesco has paid through the nose for it.
WHAT next for the barren site, once home to Sedgemoor Splash?
“With the amount of money we’ve got I really don’t think people would be unhappy.
“I think we’ve now got to take a deep breath and think about the way forward because we’ve got the time and we can consult the people of this town."
Sedgemoor District Council says the terms of the agreement are confidential
between the parties but added that they include full recovery of the council’s costs and retention of the land.
