WATCHET held its first wassail event at the weekend ... and it was well worth the wait.
The people of Watchet came together for an evening of English folk tradition hosted by the Pebbles Tavern, where they recited the Carhampton wassail chant to the Yarlington Mill cider tree.
“Watchet has land earmarked for apple growing trees, for a Community Orchard, so we thought we’d wassail the tree ready for the orchard,” said Ben Allen, owner of Pebbles Tavern.
“We’re quite traditional and we were really keen to create a wassail.
“We hope to make it an annual event. “Next year we want to wassail to a load of saplings so that they can go into the orchard too.”
