A BURNHAM woman who suffers from a debilitating disease has received help to buy a mobility scooter which means she now has the freedom to leave her home and enjoy life.

Linda Lee, known as Lin to her friends, has a long-term condition called fibromyalgia, which means she suffers widespread pain, fatigue and muscle stiffness.

As her health declined Lin became more and more housebound and struggled to walk 50 yards.

She approached Burnham & District Lions Club for help to buy a mobility scooter to enable her to get out and about and the club voted unanimously to provide the help she had requested.

A spokesman for the Lions told the Weekly News: “Finding a suitable scooter was far from easy as it had to fit into a suitable vehicle with a special remote control hoist to enable it to be lifted in and out of the vehicle by Lin herself.

“Eventually, a suitable scooter was found and it arrived, paid for by the Lions, together with a hoist part and a suitable vehicle, as part of the National Motorbility Scheme.

“I believe this has improved the quality of life for Lin, providing her with the independence and mobility she richly deserves.

“This mobility scooter will give her the freedom to do all things we take for granted.”
