THE former owner of this beautiful necklace is almost £5,000 better off following feverish bidding at auction.
The seller, from the Taunton area, had been told to expect the Victorian amethyst and gold set riviere necklace to fetch between £1,000 and £1,500 in Lawrences of Crewkerne’s October fine art sale.
But it raced past the original estimate and finally went for £4,780.
Auctioneer Simon Jones said: “Jewellery continues to make very strong prices in auction, and our Quarterly Fine Art Sales are always very popular with private and trade buyers.”
