TOM Baycock snapped a selfie of the “best day of my life” – meeting US President Barack Obama.

Tom, who is Taunton Deane MP Jeremy Browne’s Parliamentary assistant, was at the annual summer party in the White House grounds when Mr Obama came over and chatted.

He managed to cadge an invite to the bash from the family he is staying with as the wife works in the education department for the President’s administration.

“I was lucky to be invited as her guest,” said Tom, a history and international relations graduate.

“We watched Barack Obama speak before he made his way into the group who were watching, shaking hands and making conversation.

“We shook hands, he thanked me for being there and noted my English accent.

“It was a wonderful event – amazing to visit the White House and meet the President. The best day of my life.”

Tom is in the USA on a placement with the re-election campaign for Virginia senator Mark Warner in the mid-terms on November 4.

He is working with the campaign team in fundraising/political strategy for almost a month.
