Can you help Hillview Carnival Club?
IF Burnham’s last remaining carnival club doesn’t find a new base soon, it can’t take a cart out to mark its 40th anniversary this year.
Tina Marshall, secretary of Hillview Junior Carnival Club, told the Weekly News the club is in “urgent” need of a dry place to store its cart and needs to find somewhere in the next few weeks.
The club has had to move from its base at Woodberry Brothers and Haines Furniture Group, on the Walrow Industrial Estate, in Highbridge, after the firm went into administration (as reported here).
Ms Marshall said: “We urgently need a site to build the cart on.
“We’ve stripped it, but we’re really behind with building it and if we don’t find somewhere this month we won’t be able to take a cart out - and it’s our 40th anniversary this year!
“Everyone is looking forward to entering for this special year and the children will be disappointed if we can’t. They are very upset at the prospect of not taking part.
“We have about 20 children and 25 adults in the club, so a lot of people depend on us finding a location.
“We’ve had some help to get the cart off the site but where it is at the moment is not sheltered; it needs somewhere dry.”
Anyone who has a sheltered area of 40 x 20ft, such as a barn, to store the club’s cart and tractor should call chairman Mark Bishop on 07789682576.
