FORMER Somerset batsman Jos Buttler returned to his old stomping ground as he opened up a ‘ramp’ named in his honour.

The England star was at his old school King’s College this week to unveil a grassy bank formation, called ‘Buttler Ramp’, while taking a breather from his new side Lancashire’s game at the County Ground.

Buttler said: “I always love coming back to my old school where I enjoyed my time.

"Things have changed a little bit since I was here but it’s always nice to come back and see some friendly faces and see the place where I had some really good years and where I grew up.

“It’s a bit quirky and bit of fun to have the ‘Buttler Ramp’ named after me but it’s also a great honour and a nice gesture by the school.”

On the pitch, Buttler is known for his audacious ramp shot and big hitting.

Phil Lewis, head of cricket at King’s, came up with the idea to create a ramp in honour of his friend and former student.

“It is great that we have been able to put something here to remind us of what he has done for us and what he has gone on to do is a really great moment for us,” said Phil.

“I live on the side of the first team pitch and I saw that there was some soil being dug out to build the new tennis courts and cricket nets and thought that rather than dispose of it why not create a grassy bank.

“The idea to call it the 'Buttler Ramp' came a bit later but we have already used it and we are really chuffed to bits with it and it has been a fantastic addition.”
