MEMBERS of the Monday Club at Burnham’s Bay Centre competed in a variety of sports in the summer sunshine.

The Monday Club held their annual Community Games on June 16 when members competed in sports including tennis, egg and spoon races, sack races and hoola hooping.

Community Games was created to give everyone up and down the country the chance to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Inspired by the Games, Community Games was Legacy Trust UK’s idea. Funded by the Government’s Social Action Fund for the last two years, it is now supported by Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP).

The Monday Club event was run by Jonathan Smith from Burnham, who won an award for his work in promoting community games, which was presented to him last year by Lord Coe at the Olympic Park in London.

Jonathan was one of 70 ‘Shining Lights’ from across England, nominated for their work in supporting Community Games across the country.
