MORE than £3,000 was raised last week for a charity that helps equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital.

The largest donation to the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) was £1,485 from Dick Brewer, of West Lyng, through a plant and cake sale, including a raffle, tomgbola and sponsored cycle ride.

Other donations were £25.52 from the collection box at Lizzie’s Kitchen, Burnham; £7 in 5p coins from Bernard and Mary Spilsbury; £24.40 in 5ps from the Police Pensioners Group in Taunton; £4 from the collection box at PJ Signs, Taunton; and £20.52 from the collection box at Londis, Bridgwater.

Margaret Lomax raised £3; there was £100, including £65 in 5ps, from Norman Tomkies, of Street; £79.10 from Blagdon Retirement Village; £30 in 5ps from Clare Pile and family from Minehead; £181.60 from a collection at Asda, in Taunton, and £203.40 from a collection at Asda, in Bridgwater.

Karen and Keith Cornish collected £580 at a party to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary; there was £296.10 from a collection at Sainsbury’s in Billet Street, Taunton; £49.20, including £47 in 5ps from the Beacon Centre; and £100 in loving memory of Bill Harrison.

The total of £3,188.84 takes the amount raisded since SURE teamed up with the Gazette to £427,588.54.
