WEST Somerset Council has secured a grant of £2,500 to spend on a number of consultations with the local community with the overall hope of improving employment in the district.

The grant comes as part of the Our Place Programme, which the council is part of.

It focuses on brining local residents, councillors and community and voluntary organisations together to tackle key issues and concerns in their community.

The focus will be on Williton and Watchet, where a number of workshops will take place to give residents a chance to have their say on what they need to help them find work or training.

In Watchet, the session will be held at The Sanctuary on May 16 from 11am-1pm and in Williton the workshop will be held at the Council offices in Killick Way on May 8 from 4pm-6pm.

Cllr Dave Westcott said: “We are delighted that West Somerset Council is part of the Our Place programme and has been awarded a grant to undertake work which aims to strength our local communities.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the local community, including those who live and work in the area to influence the design and future of employment and skill services in the area”.
