MEMBERS of a comic carnival club are asking anyone who can offer them a base to come forward urgently.
The 20-strong One Plus One CC has to leave its current base on the Dillington Estate by April 1 because a business renting the building and yard has resulted in a lack of space.
The club has been at the estate six years.
Chairman Maurice Hooper said: “It’s very unfortunate that we have to leave as the club has had an excellent relationship with Dillington – they have helped us tremendously.
“Last year, unfortunately, the club was unable to go out with a cart owing to members’ other commitments, but we were able to collect money for local carnivals as a club, which kept the club together and morale high.
“It’s an adult club, but youngsters of 14 or 15 are members and do things they wouldn’t normally do through the club – they love it.
“It’s also a big part of my life – I just can’t get away from it. It’s so rewarding. We get out and enjoy it – we’re not like the big clubs which are really serious.
“We’re desperately looking for a new base – I don’t know what will happen if we don’t find one. I hope it doesn’t get to that stage.
“We can’t afford to pay rent, but we’re happy to be outside – we’re small, so we just need a space about 100ft x 50ft.”
Anyone who can help should call vice-chair Wayne Davey on 07736-644899 or Maurice on 01460-54626 or 07741-100509.
