THE County Gazette can confirm that a timber frame at the Hankridge Arms caught fire, and has collapsed.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to reports of smoke that looked like it was issuing from the kitchen.
"In fact it was a timber frame that had caught fire, and collapsed, and is severely damaged, and we are still in attendance.
"We have put the fire out, and now the cause is being investigated."
ONE fire engine has now left the scene; two engines remain.
INSPECTOR Ben Moseley, force incident manager for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At this stage what I can tell you is that police and fire have been called after a report of a fire at the Hankridge Arms.
"At this moment in time, while this is being dealt with, we are conducting an investigation with the fire brigade to establish what is the cause of that fire.
"But the cause is not known at this time."
