Car smashes into pillar at Wellington Waitrose

Chris Reynard, branch manager at Waitrose Wellington, said: "Our thoughts are with the driver who we wish a quick recovery, and we'd like to thank the emergency services for their response.
"The shop is open but as a precaution we have temporarily closed the cafe while we await the attendance of a structural engineer."
No shoppers were harmed during this morning's incident.
A Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: "One female casualty was removed from vehicle by ambulance personnel assisted by the fire service.
"The vehicle had collided with a brick pillar at the front of the building and dislodged some of the brickwork, which caused a window to smash.
"Fallen masonry had entered the shop and cafe area but no shoppers were harmed. The main structure of the shop was not damaged."

One eyewitness said: "An off duty firefighter and two paramedics saw to the driver involved in the crash.
"They were there for around 15 to 20 minutes before more help arrived."

Emergency services have left the scene. The rubble left from the smash has been cordoned off.
The car has been towed away from the scene but part of the store is closed. The extension only reopened a few weeks ago following a large fire.

South Western Ambulance Service says there were three casualties in the incident.
Two people have been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and one was treated at the scene.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the pillar is supporting the roof above the store's cafe.
