Volunteer group helps keep Milverton tidy
9:00pm Monday 6th January 2014 in Somerset
KIND-hearted volunteers in Milverton will be celebrating a successful first anniversary this month.
Members of the Milverton Conservation Volunteer Group, who carry out regular jobs around the village, will hold a meeting to discuss fund-raising and try to recruit new helpers.
The group was set up by Trevor Phelps and Gwilym Wren and following its launch volunteers have completed six tasks on five sites within the parish, including tidying up ponds and roadside verges.
As well as the sites already being worked on, the group has been invited to carry out work further afield.
Wessex Water has asked for help in clearing invasive weeds and a farmer near Watchet is looking for help making hay on a steep flower rich meadow.
Trevor said “We have been overwhelmed by the commitment and enthusiasm of people to helping their environment.”
Gwil added: “The establishment of the group has been a resounding success which we need to build on.
“The task for 2014 is to consolidate our work so far and become a sustainable group that can make a real difference. This will involve new members, new projects and crucially, fund-raising.”
The meeting will take place in the Victoria Rooms at 7pm on January 21. All are welcome.
